Coffee Strong, a project of G.I. Voice, is an Anti-war/Pro-Soldier coffeehouse located just blocks from the gates of Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The organization is made of active-duty personnel, recent veterans and civilian allies organizing together to end the wars, provide other veterans, service members and military family members with links to vital resources, and create a space in which the military community can openly discuss issues that matter most to them.
Coffee Strong provides the military community with GI rights and Veterans Disability Benefits counseling, radical literature, links to resources for a variety of needs, and free coffee for enlisted personnel. The shop serves as a safe place for active-duty personnel, military families and veterans to organize and discuss issues like: war, deployment, PTSD, Military Sexual Trauma, and the hardships of life in the military. Coffee Strong also holds movie screenings, concerts, art showcases, and speak out events, and offers a space for creative forms of resistance, alternative points view, and a relaxed atmosphere in which those most affected by the wars feel welcomed and free to express themselves.
Coffee Strong believes that by sharing our experiences, educating ourselves, and acting in support of each other we can bring about the change necessary to create a livable world; and we strive to support organizing among the military community to improve their everyday lives.
