Gift Acceptance Policy – Acceptance of Gifts in Kind
It is the policy of GI Voice/Coffee Strong to direct all gifts to the coffeehouse manager for processing. Items need to be cleared with the manager in advance. We cannot accept items in need of repair, unless someone on staff is able and willing to provide this service. We are not able to easily recycle or redistribute items with limited access to transportation and staff time.
Coffee Strong accepts gifts in kind (non-cash gifts) that will be retained for the coffee shop’s use, such as equipment and furniture. Terms regarding acceptance of a donated vehicle would need to be acceptable to both parties, and the vehicle should provide about three years’ use, or 70,000 miles. These items are accepted if the intent is for Coffee Strong to retain the property for three years or more. IRS deductions for in kind donations over $5,000 require an appraisal, which is the responsibility of the donor to obtain. Please consult IRS publication 561, Determining the Value of Donated Property, for additional information. This will help in preparation of IRS Form 8283 Noncash Charitable Contributions.
Final approval for accepting and receipting gifts in kind rests with the coffeehouse manager.
